Phase 1 Geoenvironmental Assessment (Desk Studies)
The aim of a Phase 1 Desk Study is to identify any potential sources of contamination associated with a site under investigation, the potential pathways by which the identified contamination can migrate, and the receptors that can be impacted by the potential contamination. The relationship between a source, a pathway and a receptor is known as a pollutant linkage. The identified potential pollutant linkages are combined to form a preliminary Conceptual Site Model (CSM).
Phase 1 Desk Study includes consideration of geological, environmental and historical information, together with a site inspection (walkover).
The findings may conclude that no further action is necessary, or alternatively that a Phase 2 (Ground Investigation) is necessary to investigate further the identified potential pollutant linkages.
